Our Community Impact

The Manor College community lives out the ‘S’ in the CARES of our Core Values - Service. Since January 2023, 200 staff, faculty and students have participated in service. They totaled 733 hours of service.

From animal washes to homeless shelters, volunteering on boards and serving at hospitals, the Manor College community is dedicated to giving back. We were also able to provide over $21,175 in emergency funds to students in need since January 2024.

Here are some of the community impact highlights from this year:

You Belong Here Advantage

In 2024, Manor College unveiled the You Belong Here Advantage. The initiative removes barriers to education for all new, full-time students entering Manor to take advantage of several incentives at no extra cost. These include free textbooks, free laptops, four free meals per week, tuition-free Summer classes and a new and improved fitness center. The advantage is made possible by several supporters of the institution.

Project Resilience Carries On

Project Resilience, an initiative to acquire and digitize materials significant to historical and cultural value of the Ukrainian Diaspora, began at the advent of the war in Ukraine. In 2024, efforts pushed forward to record thousands of items. A library assistant has cataloged and paged a large portion of the collection on hand, with items dating back to 1892.

Bird Feed

The Manor College Bird Feed collected nearly 1,811.33 lbs of food.

Serving Others

Manor College faculty, staff and students stepped up in 2024, finding ways to help the community around them. The most popular service? Making bags for the homeless, whether it was the baseball team in March, the DEIA committee in October.

Giving Back from New Beginnings

Abu Bangura takes $50 from his Popeye’s paycheck and sends it back to a few friends from his hometown in Sierra Leone. That money doesn’t mean much here, but it helps his friends live just a bit better. “I was there once and I can still tell their struggle,” Bangura said. “If I can give it to somebody and they can survive with it for a whole week, then I feel happier being able to give it back.”

Thanksgiving

Members of the Manor College faculty and staff provided a Thanksgiving meal for students before the Thanksgiving break. Nearly 75 students received a meal thanks to the institution and Culinart.

Grants

Throughout 2024, Manor College received numerous grants through various funding sources. In January, Manor College received the It’s On Us grant for the sixth year in a row. The institution received nearly $40,000 to support bystander intervention presentations, sexual assault education and more.

In June, the institution was awarded $50,000 grant for digital literacy efforts on campus. The following month, Manor College received a Blue Safety Net grant from the IBX Foundation. The grant provides support for the Dental Health Center on Manor College’s campus.

Finally, the institution received $47,600 over a two-year cycle front he Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board. Funds from the Reducing Underage Drinking and Dangerous Drinking grant funds programs on campus that discourage and reduce underage and dangerous drinking.
