Our Community Impact

The Manor College community lives out the ‘S’ in the CARES of our Core Values - Service. Since January 2023, 200 staff, faculty and students have participated in service. They totaled 733 hours of service.

From animal washes to homeless shelters, volunteering on boards and serving at hospitals, the Manor College community is dedicated to giving back. We were also able to provide over $7,815 in emergency funds to students in need since January 2023.

Here are some of the community impact highlights from this year:

Manor College Receives ‘Transformative’ Title III Grant

Manor College received more than $1.4 million from the U.S. Department of Education in October as part of Title III funding. The funding comes from a federal program that helps institutions become more resilient and ultimately better serve their students. The grant strengthens an institution’s academic quality, management and fiscal stability.

Manor College Receives $1.2 Million Grant for Refugee, First-Gen Students

Manor College received a “life-changing gift” for students in January, thanks to a $1.27 million grant for refugee, immigrant and first-generation students. The grant was secured by Congresswoman Madeleine Dean (PA-04) and will go towards costs associated with advising, tuition, housing and other essential needs for students.

Bird Feed

The Manor College Bird Feed collected nearly 1,329 lbs of food.

SEPTA Route 28 Bus to Remain at Manor College

In 2023, SEPTA announced that they were exploring changing many bus routes throughout the Philadelphia area. Among those up for change was the Route 28 bus, a vital step for many students coming to Manor College. With help from the Manor College community who signed petitions and advocated on behalf of students, SEPTA announced the Route 28 bus will remain unchanged.

Manor College Professor Brings Passion for Dentistry to Kenya

Dr. Michele Gladstone, a member of Manor College’s Dental Health Center, takes her dental skills to Kenya as part of a non-profit clinic. During the eight-day mission, Gladstone sees numerous patients, crafting dentures and overseeing the overall dental operation.

Becoming a Hunger-Free Campus

The Pennsylvania Department of Education named Manor College a PA Hunger-Free Campus, joining more than a dozen other institutions statewide in the effort. Institutions receiving the designation meet several criteria, including connecting students to food options like an on-campus food pantry, increasing awareness of SNAP eligibility and reporting data on student food insecurity.

Working with Community Partnerships

Throughout 2022, Manor College received numerous grants provided through various funding sources.

Manor College received the It’s On Us grant in January 2023 for the fifth year in a row. The $40,000 grant is the largest It’s On Us grant in institution history.

In June, Health Careers in 1-2-3 was created as a partnership between Manor, St. Hubert’s Catholic High School for Girls and Jefferson Health. Students at Saint Huberts can take college-level classes in high school, attend two years of college at Manor College and, upon graduation, perform their clinical work at Jefferson health.

In July, Manor College was awarded a $20,000 Blue Safety Net grant. The grant is awarded to nonprofit community health centers that provide free or affordable care to diverse communities.
